South Korean Cuisines

South Korea - Daegu - Incheon - Jeju - Seoul - Daejeon
To holiday in South Korea and not to indulge into some scrumptious South Korean Cuisines surely is a crime. Though it has some similarity to Japanese and Chinese food, it stands out because of its own distinctive flavor. Consisting of a wide array of dishes and flavored with a variety of spices and herbs, Food in South Korea is truly delectable. Along with being so spicy and tasty, the dishes are also very high on their nutritional value.

The bounty of South Korea's productivity reflects greatly in it cuisine. Making great use of the homegrown vegetables, a South Korean Meal is absolutely wholesome. Most of the dishes accompany the staple diet rice, which is known as 'bap' in Korean. Equally popular are Rice noodles, known as 'chapche' in Korean and bean curd, called 'duboo' in the native language.

Another specialty of South Korean Cuisines is that instead of cooking the vegetables, they pickle them. This unique method of fermentation and preserving of the vegetables is called 'Kimchi'. This is a term which tourists pick up very fast as soon as they step into the country. Embedded in the very essence of the Culture of South Korea, it can also be said that the Cuisine of South Korea is nothing without its Kimchi. Koreans have pickled vegetables all through the year, almost everyday for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Most of the vegetables grown in South Korea can be pickled, though the common ones are cabbage, turnip, and cucumber, garnished with chili, garlic, onion, ginger, oyster sauce, fish sauce, and salt. In recent times kimchi has also gained in popularity in cuisines all over the world.

Apart from the ever liked kimchi, South Korean Food is also known for being spicy which is usually made by the use of Chili peppers. Other well liked dishes of the country are fishes, either grilled or stewed and roasted marinated beef, chicken, or pork which is known as 'Bulgogi' in Korean. A Korean meal also remains unfinished without a soup or stew which is sometimes made of bean paste.

The Koreans are very particular people and they believe that a well cooked food goes waste if not served properly. Hence the arrangement and presentation of dishes are of equal importance as the culinary art. All color coordinated and set in parallel lines, the South Korea cuisines simply make a delightful sight apart from adding a special tingle to your taste buds.
