Dalhousie Obelisk Singapore

Dalhousie Obelisk, Singapore is one of the main tourist attractions in Singapore. This historically significant monument is located on the north bank of the Singapore River in the Central Business District. Dalhousie Obelisk is in memory of the second visit of Marquis of Dalhousie who was the Governor general of India. Lord Dalhousie visited the place to provide the recognition of the place. In honor of that Dalhousie Obelisk was constructed at the center of the city. Dalhousie Obelisk was first positioned at Dalhousie Ghaut, which is also known as Dalhousie Pier. Due to land reclamation, the cenotaph was removed and placed near the sea wall. Again it was removed and finally it got its position in front of Victoria Theatre and concert hall.

The Dalhousie obelisk is a significant architecture in Empress Place and John Turnbull Thomson designed this historical cenotaph. The architecture shows his inspiration that is Cleopatra's Needle in London. This cenotaph is popular among the tourists who visit Singapore. Singapore bears a rich heritage and this tradition and rich past can be well evident in the monument and the architecture of the Singapore.
