The history behind the naming of Masjid al-Qiblatain in Saudi Arabia is an
interesting one. The name of Prophet Mohammad is associated with this famous
mosque in Madina. It is said that, the prophet received divine instructions
that the direction of prayer, known as qibla in Islam, should be changed from
Jerusalem to Mecca. Thus this mosque is forever associated with a defining moment
