Oman - Muscat - Salalah

With a long coastline and clean, unpolluted waters, Oman is a paradise for watersports. There are many facilities for watersports in Muscat .

There are many sandy beaches offering good diving, sailing and bathing facilities. There are also many five and four star hotels with good pools. There are also three private sports clubs with water-skiing and fishing facilities. Adventure and Recreation in Oman can indeed be fascinating.

The watersports in Muscat are:

Diving: There are good sea conditions with an average visibility of about 25 meters. There are excellent dive sites around Muscat such as Fahal Island, Dimaniyyat Islands and Cemetery Bay. The sea life is abundant with a variety of hard and soft corals and shoals of fishes. The diving is comfortable. In April 2003, an old 86 meter long armed vessel, the Al Munassir was sunk to function as a wreck. Night dives are popular and the phosphorescence is high.

Dolphin and Whale Watching: Dolphins are popular in Oman's coastal water and whales are occasionally seen. Fahal Island is a good site to spot dolphins following the tuna. Common, Spinner and some Bottlenose are the main types. Some Orca dolphins and whales have too been reported.

Surfing: With surf of four to six feet, Masirah Island is an excellent place to surf. Masirah is also a good place for wind surfing.

The other watersports in Muscat are:

Kayaking on the warm waters of Oman is perfect. One can kayak among the fjords of Bander Al Kheran in Muscat. And it is possible to also rent single or double sea kayaks with an optional glass bottom.

Fishing: Enjoy catching Rainbow Runners, Red Snappers and Barracuda and more in Oman's best fishing grounds. Game Fishing is also available in the Arabian Sea, home to the Sailfish, and Yellow Fin Tuna. There are of course restrictions on such fishing in terms of number of persons fishing and other details.

For the visiting tourist, there is no shortage of adventure and recreation in Oman or of watersports at Muscat.
