Japan has a number of famous museums which are very popular among locals and tourists
alike. Museum of Kyoto is one such example that offers visitors complete information
about the history and culture of Kyoto.
Museum of Kyoto is a comprehensive cultural hub that offers detailed information
on history and culture of Kyoto to visitors which can be easily understood and
grasped by the visitors. The annex of the Museum of Kyoto boasts of a number
of shops and also has a hall. The annex once served as the Kyoto Branch of the
Bank of Japan and represents one of the typical western style buildings during
the Meiji period from 1868-1912. The tea room located at the annex served as
a large safe then where people used to enjoy refreshments amid the nostalgic
atmosphere. The first floor of the museum comprises of a cultural information
center, information desk and a number of offices. You will also come across
a number of shops and restaurants on this floor of the museum.
The permanent exhibition complex is situated in the second floor of the Museum
of Kyoto. This permanent exhibition center showcases the history and culture
of Kyoto. The third floor also comprises of a permanent exhibition center and
show cases the art and crafts of Kyoto. The third floor of the museum also boasts
of a movie hall and film gallery. The fourth floor is meant for special exhibition
and the 5th and 6th floor comprises of exhibition rooms. The seventh floor of
the museum hosts a number of offices.
Museum of Kyoto is open everyday from 10AM till 7:30PM and you can enter the
museum till 7PM. Permanent exhibitions in the museum are open from 10AM till
7:30PM last admission being till 7PM, whereas if you intend to visit special
exhibitions then you must enter by 5:30PM. Special exhibitions are open from
10AM till 6PM. Restaurants in the museum are open from 10AM till 8:30PM. The
museum is closed every Monday and only on the following day if Monday is a holiday.
The museum also remains closed from December 28th till January 3rd.
If you want to gain admission to the Museum of Kyoto adults must pay an admission
fee of 500 Yen. If you want to enter in a group you pay 400 Yen per person.
Groups must comprise 20 or more people. College students and senior high school
students can obtain entry by paying 400 Yen per person, 320 Yen in case of group
and junior high school and elementary school students pay 300 Yen, in case of
groups 240 Yen, to get entry to the museum. Here too, groups must have 20 or
more people to avail group discount. An additional fee is charged for entry
to special exhibitions in the museum.
