Israel is a narrow region in the Middle East that connects the Asian continent with Europe and Africa. It is a developed country has diverse climatic and geographic conditions. Israel’s geography is distinct from each other. On one side the country boasts of snow capped mountains in the northern region while one can find dry and humid conditions in the south.

Geography of Israel is divided into three main regions:

1. Coastal plains
2. Mountain Region
3. Jordan Rift valley

Israel’s Geography comprise of the Coastal Plains in the west. This region is spread across the Rosh ha Nikra in the northern side and connects the southern peninsula of Sinai. The plain is spread across and approximate area of 50 kilometers.

The coastal plain consists of the large water bodies of the country. Therefore the coastal region consists of fertile plains and also includes major ports of Israel. The coastal region also includes the major cities of Tel Aviv and Haifa.

Mountain region spreads across the border of Lebanon to the Eliat Bay in the south. This region lies in between the Coastal Plains and the Jordon rift Valley. This region is sparsely populated and comprises of rocky grounds. The climatic conditions vary from that of the Coastal Plains and the climate here is wet than the other regions. Another key geographic location of Israel is the Negrev desert. The Negrev Desert is spreads over 6,700 square miles and has a number of geographical features. One of the unique features of the desert is the craterlike erosion cirques. The mountain region also includes the Galilee in the north, the Carmel, the hills of Samaria and Judean hills.

The last in the list is the Jordan Rift Valley. The rift connects the northern town of Metula to the Red Sea in the south of Israel. The rift is a part of the Afro-Syrian Rift and is a result of a seismic activity in the region. The valley also features the largest river of the country, River Jordan. The area also includes two of the largest lakes in the country – the Kineret, the largest fresh water body and the Dead Sea.
