Bali, Indonesia is famous for its wonderful scenic beauty, culture & of
course its people who are very friendly. The lush greenery of Bali is really
soothing for eyes. The rice fields cover 20% of the island. Sangeh is a small
village in Bali & Sangeh Monkey Forest is located about 20 km north of Denpasar,
near the Sangeh village. The northern part of Sangeh village covers about 14
hectares of a forest of "Pala" trees. The place is infested with hundreds
of monkeys & the place is therefore named as Sangeh Monkey Forest.
The trees are not found in any other part & why they are there is still
a mystery!
Placed in the south of the equator, Bali is warm & wet from November to
March & it is cool & dry from May to September. You can see in Bali
some lofty volcanoes, of which some are still active & huge lakes which
provide water for irrigation.
Sangeh Monkey Forest covers an area of 6 hectares (approximately). There are
some huge nutmeg trees. The trees can grow up to 40 meters high. But the chief
attractions are the Balinese monkeys who live notonly on the trees but you can
find them in the temple, Pura Bukit sari, in the midst of forest. They are believed
to be the sacred inhabitants of the forest. So tourists shoud be cautious about
them. Anything shiny & glittering objects, like cameras or ornaments shoud
be kept hidden. The visitors also can see a group of bats who are perching on
the trees. Besides them there is Bali starling, the only indigenous bird. There
are over 300 species of birds of which include dollar birds, wild fowl, sea
eagles, blue kingfishers, sandpipers etc.
Sangeh Monkey Forest, with all its natural beauty is an ideal place to visit.
