Jakarta was founded in the 16th century by Prince Fatahillah, who named the
city Jayakarta which means Glorious Victory. In 1619, The Dutch East Indies
Company captured the city and renamed it as Batavia. During World War II, this
city faced Japanese invasion and to win the sympathy of the Indonesians, the
Japanese changed the name back to Jakarta. Presently Jakarta is the hub of the
entire Indonesia as the city successfully reflects the national motto "Unity
