Augsburg is the capital of Bavaria and is located at the meeting point of the Rivers Lech and Wertach in Germany.Augsburg is divided for the convenience of adminstration into 17 districts. It is an important city of South Central Germany.

Augsburg has many historical and cultural attractions that make it popular among tourists.

The Fuggerai is a walled territory within the city of Augsburg. Named after the Fugger family, it was built by the Jacob Fugger the Younger to give shelter to the needy citizens of the city. Since it was built in 1516, it’s still fulfilling the original purpose for which it was built. The Fuggerai consists of houses, streets, a church of its own and small squares, so it’s like a fascinating city within the city of Augsburg. The gates of the Fuggerai are still locked every day at 10 in the night, just like it used to be in the towns of the medieval age.

The Bishop’s Residence was built as a replacement for the older Bishop palace in 1750. It now serves as the adminstrative seat for Swabia.

Also remember to visit the historical Das Haus von Bertold Brecht as well as the famous Der Goldene Saal.

Mozarthaus Augsburg is the house where the father of the legendary music composer was born. It is said to have been visited sevral times by Mozart.

Apart from these, Augsburg has many other attractions you’ll enjoy. Perlachturm is a beautiful bell tower built in 1182.

Kids will love the Augsburger Puppenkiste, the famous puppet theater of Augsburg.

Eiskanal, an artificial canal meant for canoeing and whitewater kayaking was constructed for the 1972 Summer Olympics. It is the first artificial waterwater course of its kind and served as a prototype for most artifical courses in the world constructed since then. The Eiskanal is still in use for various sports events.
