The "Venice of China" as Zhouzhuang is often referred as in China, is a spectacular water township. The water channels throughout the city only add to the city's magnificence. At about 18 miles from the Suzhou, Zhouzhuang is located in the Kunshan City.

Most of the architectural constructions of Zhouzhuang were created during Qing and Ming Dynasties. Till today they carry their original splendor. Zhouzhuang have fourteen bridges running across the city. But the most popular are the Twin Bridges, Shide and Yongan Bridges, which also appear on the UN postal stamp in 1985.

Besides the magnificent bridges, another historical structure worth visiting is the Shen House. It was built in 1742 by a millionaire who lived in the Qing Dynasty. The Zhang House is equally famous. First constructed in the 1400's, and after going through several renovations, the palace boasts about it's over 70 luxurious rooms.

If you are in Zhouzhuang you should not miss the Chengxu Taoist Temple. Built during the Song Dynasty (1086 - 1093) the temple was expanded over the years.

You should visit Zhouzhuang during the time when the Dragon Boat Races and Wansan buffet takes place. These culturally rich activities hold the folk flavor of the city.
