Zhongdian, China is the name of a huge county as well as its capital town. It
is one of the three counties in northwestern Yunnan of Diqen Tibetan Autonomous
Prefecture. Zhongdian, better known as Gyelthang in Tibet, is bordered by Tibet
in the northwest, Lijiang to the south, Ganzi and Muli in Sichuan to the north,
and Nu Jiang Lisu Autonomous prefecture to the west.
Located at the heart of the Hengduan Mountain Range, embracing the canyon formed
by rivers which rush down from Tibet, Zhongdian is a dwelling of peace and tranquility.
The county has a vast elevation, from a 6740 meter on the Tibetan border to
1480 meters in river valley to the south. The region also is a dwelling of a
wide variety of fauna include yak, Dzo, sheep, goats, pigs, chickens, Dian golden
haired monkey, wild donkey, black-necked crane , lesser panda, leopard musk
deer, pangolin, and many small mammals and birds.
Tourists Attractions -
Bitahai: This is a famous freshwater lake located in western Yunnan.
This emerald colored lake is situated at an elevation of 3549 meters above the
sea level.
Napa Hai Nature Reserve: The Napa Hai Lake with an elevation of 3270
meters above the sea level covers an area of 660 square kilometer. The lake
is surrounded by mountains on three sides. More than ten rivers, winding through
grasslands flow into the lake. The golden hue of the pampas in autumn attracts
hundreds of rare birds such as black necked crane and bar-headed goose to flock
into the area for winter.
Meili Snow Mountain: Located in the east suburb of Deqen County, the
Meili Snow Mountain is famous for its Kagebo Park. Situated at a height of 6470
meters above sea level, this is the highest point of Yunnan. Surrounded by 13
lesser peaks, the Kagebo Peak is the most beautiful mountain in the world. There
is an exotic waterfall in the south known as Deluge of Rain and God-Mandated
Cascade gushing down from a height of 1000 meters.
Song Zhangling Monastery: This monastery was founded during the reign
of the Great Fifth Dalai Lama in 17th century.
Benzilan: Travel two hours from Zhongdian and you will reach this pleasant
town located at a height of 1968 meters. Surrounded by sharp rising hills and
winding rivers, a narrow strip of the land lies on the right bank of the Upper
Yanthzi River.
