The kingdom of Cambodia is a country in South East Asia that is home to more than
fifteen million people Phnom Penh. This country with its capital in Phnom Penh

Economy and Politics of Cambodia

monarchy similar to the political system in the United Kingdom. Like Queen Elizabeth
II the king of Cambodia reigns but does not rule. Politically according to its
constitutions of 1993 Cambodia is a parliamentary representative democratic
monarchy. The Prime Minister of Cambodia is the head of government, and of a
pluralist multi-party system, while the king is the head of state. The Prime
minister of Cambodia is appointed by the King as per the suggestions and approval
of the National Assembly. The Prime Minister and his or her ministerial appointees
make up the executive of the government and exercise the executive functions
of the state. The legislative functions are carried out by both the executive
and the two chambers of parliament, the National Assembly of Cambodia and the
Senate.
Despite its recent progress the economy and politics of Cambodia is still very
much under the shadow of decades of civil war, internal strife and corruption.
The Economy of Cambodia is looking up and the per capita income of the country
is rising slowly but is however pretty low compared to other countries of the
region.
Cambodia's minimal exports are a quite a major part of the country's revenues
and are pretty important for the economy and politics of Cambodia. Products
that are exported by the country are rice, fish, timber, garments and rubber.
United States, Singapore, Japan, Thailand, China, Indonesia and Malaysia are
its major export partners, giving a major boost to Cambodia Economy.
The world image of economy and politics of Cambodia is not very favorable however,
as was evident from the country's rank of 151 among the 163 countries that were
rated by Transparency International.
