Think temples, lush green forests, fields of paddy and idyllic tropical beaches
and you will have an idea of what a holiday in Cambodia is like. The kingdom of
Cambodia is a Southeast Asian country that is home to more than fifteen million
people. The capital of the country is Phnom Penh. The country shares its borders
with Thailand in the north and northwest, Laos in its northeast and Vietnam in
its east and southeast. The Cambodia overview will tell you more about the country.
Communications of Cambodia especially the postal and telegraphic versions
have been restored recently in Cambodia only after Khmer Rouge after 1980.
Communications of Cambodia falls under the domain of Ministry of Communications,
Transport and Posts and was restored in 1980 during the regime of the People's
Republic of Kampuchea. Communications of Cambodia though very much prevalent
before but was disrupted under the Khmer Rouge.
In the year of 1987, the space communication station Intersputnik began work
in Phnom Penh and established two-way telecommunication links between the Cambodian
capital and the cities of Moscow, Hanoi, Vientiane and Paris. When the earth
satellite station was built in the grounds of a Roma Catholic church in Phnom
Penh, telephone and telex links were restored and for the first time since 1975
Phnom Penh was linked to Hanoi as well as other countries.
Initially the service of communications of Cambodia was limited to the government.
However the expansion of the industry of communications in Cambodia has helped
reduce the isolation that Cambodia seemed to be under.
Communications at Cambodia has improved and has undergone a near sea change
these days with the availability of mobile phones. However Prime Minister Hun
Sen had recently declared that 3G mobile phones would be banned from Cambodia,
out of fears the handsets would be used to access pornography.
